Iki Crater Floor, Kilauea Volcano
Big Island of Hawaii

Iki Crater is a pit crater next to the main summit caldera of Kilauea Volcano. During the 1959 eruption, the Iki Crater filled with a lava lake and spouted a fountain as high as 1,900 feet. After 50 years, the floor of the crater is still warm. Rain water seeps into the cracks, causing steam hot enough to cause serious burns.
